Talking about My Windows Live Local Scratch Pad

My Windows Live Local Scratch Pad

The Seinfeld Diner

That's right folks!  There is a new kind of tourist in town.  The virtual or voyeristic tourist that can see attractions and landmarks from the comfort of their own home!  No more 6 hour flights, hotel expenses or driving wear and tear.  Go cross-country in a mouse click or drag!

Web Cams and Business Travel

So now that I am travelling for work I'm going to use web cams to keep in touch with those I leave behind.  Now I'll be able to talk to people on the road via MSN Messenger and have audio and video convos!  I chose the Logitech Latop Cam ad Quick Cam Pro.  I'll let you all know how it works!  I'm hoping for good quality audio and video.

Spelling with Flickr

I think Flickr is as awesome as the next person.  The only drawback is that there is no way that I know of to FTP to their site and I think they either limit the total amount of photos you can store, or the limit the transfer of those photos.  So I use Fotki instead.  However, there is a new site that lets you climb through Flickr for photos that spell words!  Check out this image below!

That is just plain cool.  The site also gives you the source for this functionality too!  Check it out at

HD DVD

Based on feedback from this link,

I think I’m throwing my weight behind HD DVD also along with MS!  The part that I’m a fan of is that HD DVD will support ripping and storage in Media Center for playback through the whole house!

Google Bombing

Check out this!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miserable_failure

If you put in “miserable failure” into google, The Biography of George Bush comes up.  The second result is Michael Moore’s website.  This is due to the practice of google bombing.  It’s described below:

Virtual Earth and Google Maps
Now you can compare the fantastic technology behind Google Earth and MSN Virtual Earth.  I still like Google because it has mostly color maps.

Google My Corrupt the Timeline

Continuing under my assumption that Goolge is obviously from the future, they should be concerned with corrupting the timeline with technologies that are super cool to early in the past (present).  In any case, here is the latest new and cool tool from google:

The origins of Almighty CTL-ALT-DELETE

The origins of Almighty CTL-ALT-DELETE
It’s such an innocuous combination of keys.  I always assumed it was a sequence that no one is likely to push by accident on the keyboard so it would never accidentally happen.  However, judge for yourselves below:

Programming in the Future

After hours and hours of trying to find a simple bug in one of the languages I know (C#, VB.NET, TSQL, VBScript, Jscript etc.) I had a fantastic idea, although I’m not sure its original and many programmers or developers have most likely thought about it.  What if there were a code compiler for a programming language in the future that were capable of refactoring (finding and fixing) what it interpreted as errors in your code.  Right now, many language compilers are capable of telling you what the error is.  How hard would it be for it to actually make corrections for you? If it knows what the problem is, it should be able to modify your code to fix the problem.

For that matter, how far away are we from a programming environment that would could just issue commands to at a macro level and it would write all of the implementation logic itself (i.e., a super BizTalk 2004).  You would say in your best Scottish brogue (a la Scotty from Star Trek the Voyage Home) “Computer…”

“Create a multi-tier internet e-commerce storefront application that stores user, inventory and configuration information in a database and that accepts check and credit card transactions.  Also, ensure that users have individual accounts and that transaction processing is asynchronous.  Use the following servers for your development instance of the application…”

Although, if software could do that, what use would developers be…

My Smartphone Modifications

I recently let go of my Pocket PC in favor of the Motorola MPX220 Windows Mobile Smartphone.  I was tired of carrying around 2 devices when 1 can do the job.  I used to have to look up my contacts in my Pocket PC while I was driving, with my stylus, visually dial the number on my Nextel and then stow my Pocket PC.  Now I can just use voice recognition to dial my contacts which I maintain in Outlook which sync’s to the phone directly.  Also, I can now assign pictures to contacts and they show up when people call.  Smartphones are now as small and efficient as regular cell phones.  I have also done the following to my SmartPhone:

Created custom ring tones and uploaded them to the MiniSD card so I have an entire ring tone library
Downloaded PHM Registry Editor - http://www.phm.lu/Products/Smartphone/RegEdit/
Downloaded an installed Theme Changer for the SmartPhone - http://homepages.inspire.net.nz/~gambit/
Installed and used the themes at the links on the page.  My favorite is the Halo2 theme.
These themes are great because they make such a unique difference and layout vs. the Microsoft Theme Generator for SmartPhone.  Apparently, there is a XML file that is used to control the home page layout that these theme designers have modified.
Additionally, they completely replace all the system screens and backgrounds with custom ones which are nice.  The Theme Generator from MS does not do this.
Downloaded additional these from http://modaco.com

Blogging as a Double Edged Sword

Here is a great post on how blogging can be a double edged sword.

http://codebetter.com/blogs/grant.killian/archive/2005/03/04/56493.aspx

One view is that the blog speaks to the capability, ability and experiences of the blogger.  It can be used to market services, or the individual (blog address on a resume anyone?).  However, if the judging party sees the blogger posting frequently, they might ask themselves “if you are blogging all the time, when are you getting work done?”

More slippery slopes with weblogs…

Clairvoyance

Can I predict ‘em or what? Here is an example of how destructive poor judgment in blogging about your company can be to your career. What is interesting about this fired google blogger is the notoriety he is receiving on the internet and the blog sphere.  Be careful out there in your weblogs.
